GFIA was run for the first time in 2014, and, among its opening addresses, was one given by Bill Gates in his capacity as Founder and President of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, with which we worked closely.
Such is the importance of Information and Communications Technologies (ICT) that the 2015 Edition of GFIA will be supported by a major conference and dedicated area for companies in this sector. Through this platform, you will be able to meet and engage with clients and key engagement groups from across the Middle East and Africa and from much further away.
The ICT in Agriculture Showcase (and conference) will focus on pre-cultivation (including crop selection, land selection, calendar definition); Crop cultivation and harvesting (land preparation and sowing, input management, water management and fertilization, pest management, etc); Post-harvest (marketing, transportation, packaging, food processing, traceability etc) and other areas where these technologies are being applied.
As an exhibitor, you will meet with: Farmers (and organized and informal farming associations), Ministerial level personnel (Ministries of Agriculture), distributors and resellers, parastatals NGOs, researchers (educators and trainers), agri-food related organisations, businesses and associations.
We have a growing number of companies in this sector that are exhibiting and among these are Top Con, Ag Leader, Progis, Dacom and many others.
In 2015 GFIA will deliver visitors from over 100 countries including all of the Middle East and the countries of Africa that have been selected as a focus by our partners in the UAE Government. These include Tanzania, Ethiopia, Mozambique, Angola, Ghana, South Africa, Sudan, Morocco, Kenya, Nigeria, Zambia and Egypt. Furthermore, the UAE Government has put forward major sponsorship for these countries under the GFIA Hosted Buyer/Delegate Programme. Under this initiative, we will host 300 top level buyers and specifiers from Africa who will be at GFIA as guests of the UAE.
They will join over 6,000 other food professionals who will be in Abu Dhabi to meet and do business with companies just like yours.
We are now well underway with our stand bookings campaign for GFIA 2015 and I include our website address www.innovationsinagriculture.com providing a profile of the event in 2015 and its achievements in 2014.
The content and global importance of GFIA is contributed to by a wide number of partners which support across a range of areas in sustainable agri-food production. In 2014 they included CGIAR, FAO University Arizona, UV Davis, Anterra Capital, VirginaTech, ICRISAT, ICARDA, RUAF Foundation, Universitat de Lleida and others.
GFIA is an Abu Dhabi Government led event and has been widely regarded as the most important trade fair launch in 2014 for innovations in sustainable agriculture. To get a full feel for its focus and the challenges it faces I hope you can take a few minutes to watch the video production included herewith https://vimeo.com/85824463
